Just a Saturday Afternoon
English Football is really something to behold as the sheer insanity of the crowd really doesn't compare to anything here in the US. Sure, college and pro football games involve a high amount of excitement and passion from the fans. As does college basketball's March Madness. But how often do we ever see celebrations like in the video below? I've been to some football and basketball games where the there has been great energy from the crowd, but those have all been big games with championship or high rankings at stake: the Seahawks first home play-off game during their Super Bowl run, the yearly Apple Cup game between WSU and UW, the Gonzaga-Missouri "Battle in Seattle" several years ago.
To drive the point home even further, this clip is from a goal scored in a League One football match between Leeds United and Yeovil Town last season; League One is two levels below the English Premier League...it's somewhat akin to a AA baseball game or a CBA basketball game. Somewhat...and that's a crude comparison, at best, on my part. The basic point is that these two teams aren't playing for the EPL title, or the UEFA Champions League, they are just playing in a regular league game on a Saturday afternoon...yet the atmosphere in the stands is incredible.
