I'm pretty surprised
To see that. I wonder what they see that they think he’s got a shot. He’s a good horse to be sure, but the Classic? May not be bad odds on him, may be worth throwing a couple bucks across the board and see what happens. Just not sure he has what it takes for Zenyatta, Quality Road, Lookin at Lucky and others.
I was surprised, too.
He’s run so well at middle distances this year that you’d think that’s where they’d point him. He seems like he’s a game horse that gives you everything he’s got each time out there and can envision him finishing in the tri or the super but it’s tough to see him as the winner. He would have easily been the favorite for the Dirt Mile.

Do you think
He could see odds of 15 or 20-1 in this race? I know he’s a familiar name but you have to think that Zenyatta, Blame, Quality Road, and Lookin at Lucky are going to get a lot of money. I’m loving the prospects of having Lucky be somewhere in the 5 to 1 range. I can’t see Musket Man taking on that much money with that kind of competition. It would almost be worth putting a big show bet on him if so. Seems like that horse always seems to find the board.
I agree with you...
15/1 or 20/1 sounds about right.

I Think This Horse Is A Worthy Exotics Key....
…especially if the track comes up sloppy.
Now is the time boys to make a big noise.
No matter what the people say,
For there is naught to fear, the gang's all here,
So hail West Virginia, hail.

After you Shirreffs post
I decided to go check out some of Musket Man’s races and ya know, I think he’s got a shot. He has routinely finished close with Quality Road. The one race he was definitely 3rd, but it was to Blame and Quality road. He’ll be familiar with the horses and I wouldn’t be shocked if he pulled one off. It would be a huge upset to be sure, but it’s not like he hasn’t been tough against this same competition, minus Zenyatta of course.
I’m also looking and thinking that Zenyatta, may not be a lock to hit the board. That’s just my take. I said the same thing last year and we saw how that went. As much as I’d love to see her finish undefeated, the better in me wants to see Musket Man, Lucky and Quality Road in the trifecta.
I'm not
A Zenyatta hater, and I know she did exactly what she had to do to win the last couple of times out. I’m just not sure how great her last couple of outings have been. She may run down some of the competition she faced that last couple of times out, but can she run down Quality Road and Lucky this year? I don’t know. Either way she will have a great send off. The crowd will be electric for her and she’ll the love and admiration she deserves win or lose.
I think Zenyatta will really depend on pace in this race, more than ever.
If she get’s the fractions to run at I think she can get to QR and the others. Don’t know that she will get to them, but I would expect her to be able to close hard. If it’s soft up front, she’ll be up against it.
I’m not sold on QR at a mile and a quarter, especially if there is pressure up front. Blame and Lucky, for me, are big threats in the Classic.
