Some quick thoughts
and then I’m going to spend much of the day pouring through the PPs:
1 – Kathmanblu at 10/1 ML for the Juv Filly Turf? Yes, please. Anytime I can get a price like that on a talented turf runner with Leparoux on board, I’m all in.
2 – Chamberlain Bridge got the brunt of the draw in the Turf Sprint. He might not be an early speed type but he’s going to have 13 horses crashing down on him inside the first furlong and a half. Looks like he’s going to get a tough trip.
3 – The 12 hole isn’t death for Lookin At Lucky, but Bobby B. has got to be wondering why he can’t just draw the middle of the gate for his colt.
4 – I wasn’t sold on Quality Road before the draw and I’m even less on board now. He’ll have lots of speed to his outside.
5 – Goldikova at 6/5? I know I’m splitting hairs but I think a better ML was EVEN or 4/5.
6 – I love Dangerous Midge at 12/1 and Al Khali at 10/1 in the Turf.
7 – Oddsmaker Mike Battaglia was generous to Mine That Bird by setting his odds at 20/1. I suppose his name will get him some cash from the more causual bettors but he’s 50/1, at best, on my line.
8 – The rail shouldn’t be too bad for Biondetti in the Juvenile since a lot of the European horses like to get covered up early on.
9 – The Turf Sprint and the F&M Sprint are going to produce some huge payouts…you can just feel it.

You Know, MattG...
I have never really considered post draws….except for when there are factoids like: “post postions higher than 9 have never won this race, etc….” So many times I have overthought speed to the outside, or speedball hemmed on rail and then seen it not matter a whit…
But you may be right about Chamberlain Bridge….
Now is the time boys to make a big noise.
No matter what the people say,
For there is naught to fear, the gang's all here,
So hail West Virginia, hail.
I don't think about them too much, either
Except for some of the turf sprints where it’s so fast early and so short a distance.

Thanks for posting the odds, gives a good check on what I wrote down (as other websites seem slow to) since they certainly didn’t waste anytime announcing them during the webcast did they.
Yeah, it's tough to keep up as they move pretty fast.
I was scrambling due to the fact that I had the start time an hour off and jumped in right at the end of the Marathon.
Hopefully these are all correct. I’ll re-check them during the day.

Quote from Todd Pletcher following the draw
re: Quality Road
"It wouldn’t have been one of my choices, but it is what it is. You don’t get to choose. He was going to load in the gate first regardless, so that part of it doesn’t change. It’s probably less of a disadvantage in a 12-horse field than it is in the Derby going a mile-and-a-quarter in a full field. The horse is doing very well coming up to the race. We’re looking forward to giving it a try. We have to get some position coming out of there. We have to kind of play it by ear. I have a lot of confidence in John Velazquez. That’s one of those decisions he’s going to have to make."
"A bad day at the track is better than a good day at the office."
Paddy O'Prado & Haynesfield
I am going to start reviewing video tonight on how these two break from the gate. I will post my findings. If it shows that they break >=50% towards the rail – - wow, QR’s day will be over literally in the first 3 sec of the race.
I don’t see him recovering from post #1 and getting bumped.
Breaks
I looked at 6 races for Paddy O’Prado and 3 for Haynesfield and they were all clean breaks from the gate.
Looks like he should get away clean.
I guess the question will be is who wants the lead going into the first turn between him and Haynesfield
"A bad day at the track is better than a good day at the office."
Made a couple of corrections...
I had Aikenite’s odds at 15/1…they are actually 50/1
I also corrected a couple of jockey misspellings although I’m happy to report that I didn’t completely screw up the Cornelio spells it with an “S” and John spells it with a Z when spelling Velasquez/Velazquez.
"A bad day at the track is better than a good day at the office."
Scenarios
Matt. We talked earlier this week about “if you ran this race 10x” – now that we have post positions, what are the 2 or 3 likely scenarios you see developing?
I think with QR down inside
we’re probably assured of a good, solid early pace between Haynesfield, QR and anyone else that wants to mix it up early (First Dude).
I agree with btalbert29 below, I think it sets up well for Zenyatta and Blame. I’m curious to see what Garcia does with Lucky from the 12 spot. There is plenty of time to get over before the turn, so he shouldn’t be wide at all but does he want to stay closer or lag back? I don’t know.

Blame
I guess I need to reach down in my pocket and start putting Blame in the top slot on my exoctics. The race does seem to setup for him. I have not done this simply because he ran a top speed figure in his last race (112 Brisnet in the Jockey Gold Cup).
“Bounce” wouldn’t be the word I’d use but I am not sure I see him going up from there to 114 or 115. He’s gone up 4 races in a row till now. I am just wondering if he can fire again.
Musket Man at 20-1....
…seriously?
I love the Breeder’s Cup….
Now is the time boys to make a big noise.

Looks like the
Classic is setting up nicely for Zenyatta and Blame. It is crazy to see Musket Man at 20-1. It’s almost worth throwing a 10 dollar bet his way just in case. I think I’m going to have some sort of tri and or super with Zenyatta, Blame, Lucky, Musket Man, and Flydown.
Musket Man
I agree with you. I’ve budgeted $10 WPS on him. His life-best speed figure is 109 on Brisnet – in Feb 2010. A 113 or 114 probably wins the Classic or at least puts you in the money.
It’s definitely reachable for Musket Man. I wouldn’t even call it a freak for him – just an improvement.
Pretty surprised at those odds on Awesome Gem
Has he ever run that kind of distance before? I love the fact that he’s so versatile, but I’m not sure he’s really worth being one of the favorites.
On a double and Pick 3
Is Goldikova a definite single? I saw on Breeder’s Cup 360 they seem to think so and everything I ready indicates so, but man I just don’t know. I’m not sure if it’s Gio Ponti that has me questioning it or if I’m just trying to find value elsewhere.
I like Gio a bit in that spot
I never would have imagined I’d write that over a month ago, but he looked so good in that last prep that you have to think he’s got a chance.
On the other hand, Goldikova makes sense as a single; that race on Arc day that she ran was just fantastic. If she runs to 85% of that on Saturday, I think she’s the winner.

Exactly...
I think you mentioned not too long ago, Matt, that second tier Euro turfers were cleaning up in the states, which might mean that an A-lister Euro won’t need A-game to win. Still, I know myself…I will probably be trying to beat Goldikova. What can I say? I’m a contrarian!

Hey, I hear ya...
It’s so hard to take short odds on BC weekend – it’s like you’re breaking the law or something!
I’m trying to figure out how I’m going to bet around the Mile. I may try to crush a Double of Goldikova and Here Comes Ben in the Dirt Mile, if the will pays are to my liking.

Well, you may be
able to beat her. Do you all think that outside post is giong to be too much for her to overcome? Especially since the turns are much tighter at CD than any track Golidkova is accustomed to running over?
I think Goldikova is too good to beat
I hate saying that on a Breeders’ Cup weekend, but I think she’s just too good, regardless of the post. Normally I wouldn’t say that, but her race on Arc day was so spectacular that I think she’s a lock. Of course, the fact that I just typed that should mean she’s going to lose!! : )
