Nice interview
He still sounds pretty depressed, but he’s hanging in there. Pretty interesting to get his take on how she took to CHD though. Maybe Sheriff’s should have trained her more aggressively in the morning to get her more prepared.
I’m leaving town on Wednesday for about a week, otherwise I’d head to HP to tell him to keep his chin up. I think he’s scheduled to be back in the irons on Thursday.
Hopefully he'll rebound from this...
After all, at some point, almost all of them lose at least once. Look at Quality Road…he finished dead last.
Twenty races and she beat all but one horse she ran against, and that was by a nose. Not too bad when you think about it.

Quality Road should've ran the Dirt Mile
That woulda been money in the bank.
I am sure Smith will rebound to a degree, but he knows that the first like of his obit will be that he was Z’s jockey. They are forever linked now, like Arcaro and Citation or “The Kid” and Affirmed.
Plus, I heard he was planning on retiring himself in the next 2-3 years.
QR was definitely a better fit in the Dirt Mile.
While I think it wasn’t Smith’s best ride I also think that luck just didn’t fall Z’s way on Saturday.
I’m surprised Smith might be thinking of retiring soon.
