Your Greatest Day at the Track - whats your story

(Matt: Bumped to the front as this is a great topic for discussion.)

A few years back my wife and I went on a vacation to Southern California. Being the classy guy that I am - I naturally took her to Inglewood California for a stop off at Hollywood Park.

It was the greatest day at the track I've ever had.

Here's what happened.

In the fourth race, the first leg of the pick 6, I bet a number of tri's, Pick 3's and wins on a 25-1 morning line horse named Sky Cape. The horse had decent work outs - good post (2 hole) and was not better or worse than anything else in a somewhat suspect field. I boxed him with the favorite, keyed the two in the trifecta, keyed him in the Pick 3 and used him the first leg of the Pick 6 which already had a one day carryover.

Damn thing won. Except he went off at odds of 75-1!

I cashed three win tickets and hit the trifecta which paid over two grand.

But wait - I have a problem. You see, I'm Canadian and was only there on holidays. So went I went to cash - the IRS wanted their share, which for non residents is a whopping 30% of the ticket - plus a lot of paperwork that the guy at the window didn't have a clue how to do.

But - even to this day - workers at the track have an angle. You see - the fellow at the IRS window had "a guy" that would use his Social Security Number for a 10% fee. No hassles, no paperwork.

While that ticket would cost be about 220 bucks and a tip to the guy in the window, it was still my best option. I agreed, he picked up a cell phone and 10 minutes later I had my money. After all - at that time the Canadian Dollar was worth about 90 cents to the US buck so I made all of it back on the exchange.

All is good. Heck, I even took a picture of the form I was so happy. I'd include the picture - but I can't figure out how that works here.

Two races later - my pick 3 comes in. Another 1700 bucks - and another call to "the guy".

Great Fun.

After the 8th race - all of a sudden I'm 4 for 4 in the Pick 6 with a 75-1 shot in the opening leg. Believe me - I'm counting my million bucks and I know I can't use the "guy" for that ticket.

In the 5th leg my horse led all the way - until the final jump and lost by a nose. Naturally I hit the last leg and once again had to use the "guy" to cash a 5 grand consolation.

There was only one winning Pick 6 ticket that day - it paid over 800 grand. So close.

What a great day - left with over 11 grand all keyed by a horse that won a maiden 4 ½ F race from a good post, with good works, good trainer and an overbet favorite.

Of course we gave some of that back in Vegas over the next few days - but what a day.

What's your best day at the track - Did you hit a big one? Meet someone? Love to hear your stories.
