Well...that didn't take long.
"The "Race for the Ages" lost one of its two heavyweight contenders on Sunday, when trainer Steve Asmussen and majority owner Jess Jackson said Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra will not be entered for the Apple Blossom Invitational Stakes (G1) on April 9."

Two thoughts on this:
1) Jackson and Asmussen didn’t have any problem running Rachel in the Preakness against male horses in a race that was the longest in her career only two weeks after dominating the Kentucky Oaks, but now think Rachel can’t get ready to run in a race in April after a six month layoff, a prep race, and three plus months worth of workouts. Oooookay.
2) If they are so afraid of losing a race they should just retire Rachel right now. Horses lose races, they don’t win them all (well, 99.9% of them don’t). It’s not like Rachel ran a horrible race and flopped yesterday; she got beat after chasing a quick pace and tiring. It happens all the time.
