Super Saver wins Kentucky Derby 136

LOUISVILLE, KY - MAY 01: Calvin Borel atop Super Saver crosses the finish line to win the 136th running of the Kentucky Derby on May 1, 2010 in Louisville, Kentucky. (Photo by Jamie Squire/Getty Images)

Back-to-back wins for Calvin Borel.  Todd Pletcher wins his first.

2nd: Ice Box
3rd: Paddy O'Prado
4th: Make Music for Me

Elapsed Fractions: 22.63, 46.16, 1:10.58, 1:37.65, 2:04.45
Internal Fractions: 22.63, 23.53, 24.42, 27.07. 26.80

I'm sure the Beyer for this race is going to come up pretty slow but I don't know that it will accurately account for how the track was playing.  It wasn't a horribly fast race at all, but when you run in slop like that you're generally not going to see really quick times.

The talk now will turn to whether Super Saver can make it two-for-two by winning the Preakness in two weeks.  There's plenty of time to discuss that later.

Well, it wasn't wire to wire

but a win is a win is a win. Thanks, CalBo.

You don't seem to want to accept the fact you're dealing with an expert in guerrilla warfare, with a man who's the best, with guns, with knives, with his bare hands. A man who's been trained to ignore pain, ignore weather, to live off the land, to eat things that would make a billy goat puke. In *St. Louis* his job was to dispose of enemy personnel. To kill! Period! Win by attrition. Well, *Steven Jackson* was the best.

He's a machine right now at Churchill..

Breeders’ Cup should be fun.

Curse of Todd Pletcher is over

Well...It Went Like I Thought It Would...

…pace scenario-wise and all. I hit the exacta, but still lost money for the day. I was keyed to Mission Impazible and Ice Box, but left Super Saver out of the one hole. I thought the pace would compromise him and only left him in the three hole. Whoops. What can you say? Borel is amazing. Lost $216 for the day…not bad, really because I always play the Derby for the chance at the life-changing score, and it really wasn’t there to be had unless you were playing the supers, and without the dime being offered (what gives with that, Churchill?) I didn’t have the funds to be in that pool…

…On to the Preakness, where I think Lookin’ At Lucky will go all Point Given/Afleet Alex on them…even with all his trip trouble he was running at the end to finish sixth. I think he might be the best in this field. And he is due for a clean race…

Now is the time boys to make a big noise.
No matter what the people say,
For there is naught to fear, the gang's all here,
So hail West Virginia, hail.

hit the tri

checked my betting ticket before walking away from my local OTB and noticed that the woman who processed it at first included the 6 (stately victor) instead of the 2 (ice box) like i told her. that would have been a disaster. always check your tickets!

keep up the good work, guys. can’t wait for the preakness coverage!

Casually.

Congrats on the Tri...

always check the tickets…although it’s usually the ones that are mis-punched that seem to hit for me.
