Not really much to talk about with the draw...

unlike the Derby, there really isn’t a horrible post at Pimlico.

Dublin should have no excuses this time…he may have to go a little wide, but Gomez should be able to navigate a clean trip.

You really couldn’t pick them any more fair than this based on who the real contender in the race are.

Lucky Will Have No Excuse...

…breaking from the 7 hole. The pressure is on, Martin…..! 3-1, though. Really? I expected longer than that. 5-1, at least.

Now is the time boys to make a big noise.

Martin has a chance to come up big.

You playing the card on Friday, JP? The Pick 3 looks decent.

I'll Be Travelling To Lexington, KY...

…that day, but I will take a look at it tonight. Let’s maybe talk it out.

Which Pick 3?

10-12 or 11-13?

10-12...

was the one that caught my eye first…but 11-13 might be nice, too. That turf sprint on in race 10 looks pretty tough but should produce a decent price.

3-1???

That is crazy. Hopefully that drops towards race time but that is hardly worth the bet for the 2nd favorite considering his bad showing in the derby and the fact it took them so long to even decide whether to put him in the Preakness or not. If he had a decent workout before this race it might make some sense but without any kind of workout performance that is puzzling odds. I still like him in the superfecta play though. I will probably go with 8-12-7-6. What do you guys got?

I might stay out of the tri and supers this race...

Still working out the details of what I’m going to play but I’m thinking of focusing on the exacta and the daily double with the Dixie in race 11. The Dixie looks like a very wide-open race.

I’ve been looking at Schoolyard Dreams as sort of my upset play…but I’m not thrilled with Coa as the rider.

Super Saver

Here is a bold statement: the more I look at this the more I don’t see how Super Saver can win. Paddy, Lookin, Caracortado, Dublin, Yawanna Twist – these guys would all be crazy not to sit on Borel and make him run. In fact, if it goes that way SS may not hit the board. Jackson Bend or First Dude could screw it up by going out in :23 and :46 but if they don’t I see :23.8 and :47.8

I am growing bullish on Caracortado and Yawanna Twist now that I’ve seen their closing numbers over the last two races – and they are fresh. Prado on Yawanna Twist knows Pimlico well. These are the closest thing to closers we got in a slow paced race.

I might spend $1 on the Superfecta of 10-9-7-8.

Exacta

MattG comments about being heavy in the exacta have me thinking of keying two on top: Paddy O’Prado and Caracortado and wheeling around the rest of the contenders.

First Dude

MattG: have you noticed that First Dude has gone out faster and faster every race of his career and finished slower and slower. I imagine the connections there might think of using another strategy on Sat???

He got roughed up pretty good at the start of the Blue Grass...

so I’ll give him a pass in that race, and I thought he finished up OK in the Fla. Derby considering the pace and his positioning. With the lack of speed in here, I think they will send him to the front….that’s just kind of what I’m envisioning. Of course, with this line-up, who knows?
