Lookin At Lucky wins the 2010 Preakness Stakes

Bob Baffet's Lookin At Lucky, with jockey Martin Garcia in the irons, wins the 2010 Preakness Stakes at odds of 2/1.

Kentucky Derby winner Super Saver got the trip he wanted, sitting second behind the pacesetter, but didn't have enough in the tank to get it done once the field hit the top of the stretch.  He's the first Derby winner to finish out of the money since Barbaro, and only the 5th since 1991.

The Triple Crown will have to wait one more year.

First Dude / Jackson Bend - congrats!

As the week went on there seemed to be two camps: the Caracortado + Yawanna Twist camp and the First Dude + Jackson Bend camp.

I really thought nothing of Jackson Bend, so I dismissed them and thought ’Dude would fade after daring to go out to a quick pace – I was wrong. I was in the Caracortado camp and it really looked pretty good coming out of the final turn and then it was like someone shot him and he stopped running.

Happy for all those who cashed tickets but today it wasn’t me who did.

First Dude

Not having Lucky on my tickets didn’t bother me too much because I don’t think there was anyway I would have had First Dude in the 2 spot. Great run from that colt and a great training job by Dale Romans.

Well, I Gave A Little of Black Eyed Susan Winnings Back...

I got to spend a couple of hours at Keeneland on Saturday, before departing for my daughter’s college graduation ceremony. A good crowd was in attendance, and two brides with their full complement of bridesmaids were seen getting photos taken. I took a picture of one lovely bridesmaid in a black dress with electric blue shoes (all ELEVEN bridesmaids in black dresses had different colored shoes…cool concept) and sent it to my brother with the caption: “this is the ugliest girl at Keenland today.” It was probably true. If you are single, you need to be a Keeneland regular. Thank Gawd for Strike A Deal scoring in the 11th or my day would have been a complete bust. He was my key in the double and helped me to lose just 36.60 for the day instead of $250. Not too bad. But again, I was all over the key race, and if I had chosen to play the tri and the super instead of the double, pick 3, and pick 4, I would have been 16,800 to the good. Again, with this story line….ARGH…..!

Still, it was a fun weekend. I sure hope I get to be home, or at least around a computer, sometime for one of your open threads…

Now is the time boys to make a big noise.
No matter what the people say,
For there is naught to fear, the gang's all here,
So hail West Virginia, hail.
