Lexington Herald-Leader: Monmouth's less-is-more approach a model racing can follow
An interesting take on Monmouth Park's 2010 meet from Herald-Leader columnist John Clay.

No Doubt About It....
…the less-is-more angle is one that I think every major track should emulate. I mean, I played Hollywood Park last Sunday, and it seemed like every single race had six starter or less. (Sad part of this story is I still missed on back-to-back Pick 3’s…). Of course, Hollywood Park is probably going to be a mall before long, but still…Clay effectively points out that most of the tracks with specialty cache are the ones that host boutique meets – Saratoga, Keeneland, Del Mar…Monmouth would be very lucky to start getting mentioned in that circle!
Now is the time boys to make a big noise.
No matter what the people say,
For there is naught to fear, the gang's all here,
So hail West Virginia, hail.
Agreed...
I think it’s a smart move on Monmouth’s Park – they’ve created a buzz about their meet and not through promotions but by simply offering large purses and, in turn, large fields. I’ve paid a lot more attention to their meet this year than I have in the past.
Out here, Emerald is struggling with filling their card…their last two Friday cards have only had seven races…and they’ll add Thursday’s into the mix starting in early June. I don’t remember them offering that few of races on a card in a while.
