Summer Bird Retires
From the Thoroughbred Times:
"Trainer Tim Ritchey confirmed Thursday morning that breeders Drs. Kalarikkal and Vilasini Jayaraman plan to retire the Birdstone colt after X-rays taken this week showed that he has not properly healed from a fracture suffered in his right front cannon bone while preparing for the Japan Cup Dirt (Jpn-G1) following a fourth-place finish in the Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1)."

Guess They Are Really Peeved At Tim Ice Now....
…or, is this more about the fact that so many horses now seem to have had stamina and ruggedness bred out of them in favor of high-cruising speed? Dunkirk, Eskenderya, Old Fashioned…to name the three most-recent versions of this story that popped into my head.
Now is the time boys to make a big noise.
No matter what the people say,
For there is naught to fear, the gang's all here,
So hail West Virginia, hail.
