Goldikova (IRE) set to meet Paco Boy in Deauville
It's pretty rare to see a Grade 1 horse runing back on two weeks rest, especially here in the U.S., but champion Goldikova (IRE) will do just that when she runs in the Group 1 Jacque le Marois at Deauville on Sunday. Goldikova won the Group 1 Prix Rothschild at Deauville on August 1st.

Gotta love
Connections with those kinda guts. Race her anywhere with little rest. Wish more owners/trainers were like that in the states.
As much as I loved the Sunday Silence/Easy Goer duel – in many ways that might have been the start of the current USA industry. Easy Goer raced constantly while Whittingham was more conservative with SS. But when it was time to ring that bell in the biggies Sunday was superior 3 out of 4 times.
I kinda think that changed the way we treated horses.
Good point...
When I saw the article stating that Goldikova was running this weekend I thought, “really, on two weeks rest?” Like you said, it used to be more common place but trainers started proving that spreading things out kept horses in form longer. I agree with you – gotta love Goldikova’s connections with the way they’ve run her this year.
As far as Goldikova is concerned…well, there is the old boxing saying of “he’s pound for pound the best fighter in the world”. It’s tough to compare Goldikova to other horses due to the fact that she runs specifically in mile turf events but I’d be hard pressed to name a better horse in training other than Zenyatta.
My favorite female horse of the last 20 years has been Ouija Board, but it’s tough to not love the brilliant trio of 2010 – Zenyatta, Goldikova, and Rachel. We are truly in a great year for fillies and mares. Sadly, 2011 will seem pretty empty when they are all retired.

Indeed it will
…be sad to lose them all.
Back to the other point though…I think now we might baby horses too much. Of course breeding tactics need to change too so we can get more sound horses out there.
