Grade 3 Longacres Mile: Entries, Post Positions and Odds

Three good things: The Form, a winning ticket, and a beer. (Photo: MattG)

The draw for the 75th running of the Longacres Mile took place this morning at Emerald Downs.  A full field of twelve have drawn into the race with 2008 Emerald Downs champion two-year old, Gallant Son, the 5/2 morning line favorite.

I'll have more on this race once the past performances are relseased.

Good call on Davos...

Coffey is having a pretty nice meet and Davos is a Ron Crockett horse…always beware of Crockett horses on big days.

I don't have a subscription to past performances

so I’m definitely looking forward to your breakdown and such.

it’s not a very sophisticated handicapping method, but generally at ED I look at trainers that are winning a lot combined with jockeys winning a lot combined with the price I’m getting. 15/1 on Davos sounds great to me. Also 15/1 on Jersey Town with Krigger/McCanna sounds good but I haven’t seen any charts on either so for all I know they’re way outclassed here.

the 12 looks interesting too, I don’t think Alex Solis would come up here unless he felt like there was legitimate chance and walking with some big money.

That's not a bad method at Emerald

given how powerful the top trainers and jocks are. My numbers at Emerald got a lot better, especially in the maiden races, when I started to lean heavily on trainer numbers.

I’ve also been looking at Jersey Town a little bit. There are some nice odds on decent horses in this field. No matter who wins this race I think the payouts are going to be pretty good all around. Gallant Son will probably end up the tepid favorite but the exacta, tri, and super will probably be decent pools to get into.

I’m going to sit down with the Form this evening and should have preview up tomorrow.
