Bloodhorse.com: Gio Ponti Confirmed For BC Mile
I suppose the connections wanted to keep their options open with this colt by cross-entering in both the Classic and Mile, but they've apparently already decided that he'll stay on the lawn.
This will be Gio Ponti's third fourth trip to the Breeders' Cup. He finished 2nd to Zenyatta in the 2009 Classic at Santa Anita, and 2nd to Goldikova (IRE) in the 2010 Mile at Churchill Downs. Prior to that, he finished 8th in the inaugural Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf at Monmouth Park in 2007.

Good Move!
Maybe they read this site, where we have been saying for how long that Gio Ponti is a good horse at the classic distance, but a badass great horse at a mile!?!
Now is the time boys to make a big noise.

I suppose I shouldn't be surprised they cross-entered Sidney in the Dirt Mile
but I’m not sure how long it takes to realize that he’s better on turf/synthetic than dirt.

Great Decision
Cap off a great career (or at least I’d assumed it’d be capped off) with a signature win over Goldikova. Great plan.
Gio Ponti !!!!
the right spot. one of my fave horses still running. not sure if i will play him yet, but so glad not in the classic
