BREEDERS' CUP 2011: Entries, Post Positions and Morning Line Odds
The entries, post positions and morning line odds are set for the 2011 Breeders' Cup at Churchill Downs on Nov. 4th and 5th. Uncle Mo, the 2010 Breeders' Cup Juvenile champion, drew post position 12 for the Breeders' Cup Classic and was installed as the 5/2 morning line favorite. Havre de Grace is the second choice at odds of 3/1.
Goldikova (IRE) drew the rail for the Mile and was made the 7/5 morning line favorite.
The complete list of 2011 Breeders' Cup entries, post positions and morning line is below the jump.

Once again
I will donating in a fruitless attempt to hit the Pick 6 in the Breeders Cup.
I will also likely be donating in the supers, tri, and Pick3s and 4s as well.
So who’s this years Volponi?
I'm with ya.
I would take a shot at the Pick 5, but I don’t like the fact that it will include some of the non-BC races. I’ll have to wait and see how the fields in the early races turn out.
Valponi… or Arcangues? I love it when a horse wins a big race and no one is cheer because everyone is ripping up tickets.

I drool everytime I see the odds that Arcangues went off at
But on a side (and lower ML note) I completely called Uncle Mo as the ML favorite. I think that this is really BC recognizing that he’s gonna pull a huge share of the handle his way, so better safe than sorry and sink his odds lower than necessary.
I feel bad for Havre de Grace though, she should be the odd on favorite, no doubt, but I guess she’ll just have to blow him away on Saturday.
Yeah, it makes sense from Battaglia's perspective..
since he’s trying to predict crowd movement, and not the actual chances of each horse. I’ll be honest, I don’t know that there are any odds that I’d take Uncle Mo.
Flat Out at 6/1 is awfully nice.

I'm going through each race trying to correct my typos...
I think the odds are all correct now (I mis-typed Mo at 5/1 at first), but if anyone notices something off, let me know. Everything is starting to run together for me!

Getting that sense of excitement! I love the Breeder’s Cup. We’re going to our place in Williamsburg, VA. this year, so maybe that will be the ticket!
Now is the time boys to make a big noise.
No matter what the people say,
For there is naught to fear, the gang's all here,
So hail West Virginia, hail.
It's good to have a nice, calm environment!
Gotta keep the concentration high.

That's a given.
I mean, we all handicap better with a bottle of booze nearby, right? Right?

I'm still trying to figure that out!
I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised that at the end of every Derby I’m searching for any all all races to play in order to “get it back”. A few rounds of bourbon and every race looks like a winner.

Online gaming
Matt, Enjoy the blog. Thanks for the info. I’m thinking about watching the BC at home this year and betting via twinspires, tvg or another online gaming site. Any one better than another? From what I’ve seen, I’m not going to drop enough to qualify for matching funds.
Thanks for reading!
I’ve used TVG and TwinSpires, along with YouBet before they merged with TwinSpires. They all are pretty similar in terms of tracks offered, wagering interface, etc.
I haven’t looked at the recent promotions for any of them, but before you sign up, make sure there isn’t any added fees for video, wagering, etc. I don’t think that most are doing that any more, but at one time some ADWs charged extra to streaming video.

DRF matches $100 for new users this weekend
Anyone use this online service? Good, bad, ugly?
Experience to extremes
I've never tried DRF.com yet.
I signed up when they went live but haven’t deposited any money. I did check out their wagering interface…looks pretty good, plus if you use their Formulator PPs (which I do) there is an easy link to bet through that app. Like I said, I haven’t actually used it, but it looks pretty decent. I’ll probably try it out this winter.

Thanks Matt
This is the 2nd blog I’ve ever participated on (the first was a site dedicated to my favorite band, Rush). I’m pretty impressed with your quick and insightful responses. I’ll have to buy you a cold beverage at the Quarter Chute Cafe. Thanks much.

No problem. And I'll always take a cold beverage!

BC Classic
Anyone like Ice Box to come in the money? He’s sort of a sentimental favorite from the ‘10 Derby, but I haven’t heard from him since.
Ice Box hasn't shown me enough to really warrant much play from me...
I suppose if I’m spreading deep in a tri or super I might get to him, but I’m not sure his form is where it needs to be. Honestly, I’m surprised they haven’t tried him on the turf.

Exotic bets
Matt, I love the potential for big payoffs at the BC this weekend and take a “shotgun” approach to my handicapping. Do you have any comments about partial fly wheels or other more sensible ways to play exotics than just boxing?
I don't box a whole lot
and if I do, it is usually pretty small, like a 2-hgorse EX or something like that. I definitely prefer to find a key horse and part wheel around him. Helps keeps the cost down and allows me to add more horses to the mix.

Newbies bet boxes
After the Longacres Mile, I realized everyone in the house knew Awesome Gem and Noosa Beach would come in 1-2 (either way) and that I need to learn to play a wheel. I’m hoping the handicapping book I ordered comes in before the BC weekend ;→
Experience to extremes
There are rare times when I'll play a box
but usually it’s when I only want to play two horses in a race, those two both pay similar amounts on the will-pays, and I really don’t have a preference… and the payouts are decent. But if I’ve got onehorse I like more than the others, them I’m usually constructing some kind of part wheel, or I’ll back-and-forth it for varying amounts: A w/ B for $10, and B w/ A for $4, etc.

Didn't hear anything
Oh well. I was hoping a NW horse would compete with the big boys. Maybe next year.
Experience to extremes
I think that was the plan
From what I read earlier in they year, the connections paid $25k during open enrollment this last spring, but I’m guessing that he must have needed a rest after the Mile because, like I wrote, I haven’t hear much about him since. He hasn’t had a work since 8/14, so I’m guessing they just decided to give him some rest before returning in 2012.
And I’m with you, I’d love to see a NW horse at the BC, like Atta Boy Roy last year.

Even a blind squirrel finds a nut
So here is how I like to play: I put each horse’s number into a cup once. Then I add another number for each thing I like about the horse (High Beyer, pedigree, past performance) and add two numbers for more important things like a good workout. So horse A may have his number in the bowl ten times while horse B may only have it in there once. Then I draw the first three numbers and play the ticket. It mixes what little I know about handicapping with a little luck too.
Experience to extremes
I've got a buddy that does something like that on Derby day every year.
He has his plays based on his handicapping, and then he plays some straight up supers with just random numbers he pulls, maybe does 10 straight $1 supers just for the action and luck.
