2011 Kentucky Derby Future Odds

As the prep races for this year's Kentucky Derby begin to pick up steam, so does the future wagering in Vegas.  The Wynn Casino updated their future book odds for the 2011 Kentucky Derby following the Holy Bull.  You can view the complete Wynn lines in the document below:

A few notes below the jump...

Star-divide

  • As expected, Dialed In's odds were slashed from down to nothing (100/1 to 7/1)
  • Machen, a troubled-filled but dominating winner in a Fair Grounds allowance last week, saw his odds cut in half. Machen is trained by Neil Howard.
  • Brethren, a half to last year's Derby winner (Super Saver) is expected to make his three-year-old debut in this Saturday's Sam F. Davis Stakes at Tampa.

An article at DRF.com outlined the possible entries for Saturday's race at Tampa:

"Gerry Stanislawzyk, the Tampa Bay Downs stakes coordinator, said others being considered for the Sam Davis include the Carl Nafzger-trained Beamer, the Pasco third-place finisher Depeche Chat, Bellamy’s Boss, Litigate, Chasing Moonlight Monzon, Reprized Halo, Ribo Bobo, Too Experience, and Washington’s Rules."
  • Uncle Mo, the current Derby favorite in the future books, is likely to make his three-year-old debut on the March 12th in the Grade 2 Tampa Bay Derby

Tiz Blessed

I don’t see him on the list but he is getting some hype from some people who have solid opinions, one being John White from HRTV. Broke his maiden at Saratoga, ran a troubled 4th in a stakes at Mmouth then won a stakes at Woodbine. I am not completely sold on him, but more sold on him than some of these like Comma at the Top.

Tiz Blessed is on the last page of the linked document...

Currently 75/1 at the Wynn.

Agree wholeheartedly on Comma to the Top and some of the others – nothing special and way too low for really pique an interest for future odds.

Santiva interests me a little bit, I liked his win over Astrology at Churchill last fall. I’m curious to where he’ll pop up next.

Guess I'm weird

I think 20/1 is a prretty decent price on Comma

I wouldn't say weird, I just don't trust that he's going to get 10F.

Don’t like the top or bottom of his pedigree (Bwana Charlie over a Stormy Atlantic mare). That screams sprinter to me.

20/1 isn't bad

Especially if he continues to win…he’ll be much lower than that on derby day. I guess for me, on the future bets I’m trying to find something in the 40 or 50/1 spots, at least early on, given the risk of the horse not even making it.

The preps out in Cal will certainly take on a different significance with the new dirt at SA.

Some books have J Ps Gusto 50/1, how about it?

That's where the Wynn has him

Seems about right since he needs to still prove that he can win on dirt and at two-turns. He’s a talented colt and the Southwest Stakes will tell us a lot about what to expect this year.
