2011 SANTA ANITA DERBY: Entries and Post Positions

Premier Pegasus, the stylish come-from-behind winner of the San Felipe Stakes on March 12th, and Jaycito, winner of the Norfolk at Hollywood  last November, headline a field of 11 three-year-old colts in Saturday's Grade 1 Santa Anita Derby in Arcadia, California.  The field also includes El Camino Real winner Silver Medallion, and Robert L. Lewis Stakes winner Anthony's Cross.  Additionally, Comma to the Top, winner of the CashCall Futurity last winter, will attempt to get back to the winning ways of his juvenile campaign.

Below are the entries and post positions for the Santa Anita Derby and I'll have a full preview on Friday.

I'm really looking forward

to the Santa Anita Derby. That race has a deep field. Is this the first race Anthony’s Cross has been in since the win early on? He’s in my stable for the Road to the Roses contest online.

Anthony's Cross

Yep, this will be his first races since Feb. 12th when he won the Lewis. I’m a bit surprised they didn’t try to find a spot before this to get him a race.

I’m quite interested to see how Mr. Commons runs. He’s a son of turf miler Artie Schiller and he’s run well on both turf and dirt in his brief career. Big class jump for him but he could surprise in a wide-open race.
