I’ll probably play the pick4’s. Then pick3’s as soon as I’m busted in the first leg.
I plan on having a drink every time someone on NBC says the word “Rematch”. I will be in rehab by post time.

I hope NBC let's us know that Johnny V. got the ride on AK after Albarado got hurt...

I don’t think they’ve played that angle up enough.

Belmont 1

Likely: 5-Seal Cove
I won’t be dissuaded by the last outing on all weather surface. Seal is bred for turf and Shug is likely to get this colt to improve. The price should be favorable.

The price is decent okay and I think he’ll like stretching back to 8.5f.

Great connections

It will be interesting to see how these early dirt races play out.

If conditions stay like this, Master of Hounds really becomes a bad play, in my opinion (and he’s taken a good amount of money already). I’ve seen too many European shippers run up the track when it gets muddy/sloppy on dirt.

When they seal Belmont

It doesn’t act like a typical dirt off track. I don’t understand the physics of why that would be.

You didn't get me down, Ray.

Unless

It’s the higher composition of sandy ( “Big Sandy” ) that allows them to squeeze out so much water.

Hey, beat me to it...

that’s was my only thought… that the sand plays a role in how it seals.

That's a good question...

I wonder how much the sand/clay, etc. composition impacts the effect of rain and sealing the track.

We’ve got data out there for so much, but wet tracks are still such a volatile handicapping factor.

I didn't like much in this race two days ago...

even less now.

I find the early betting on this race a bit odd. The 4 threw in the towel on a wet track last time out and he’s bet down to 5/2. Definitely a pass.

BEL 4

I like the 11 in this spot…decent race last time out, draws wide of the speed, and it doesn’t hurt to have Castellano in the irons right now. 4/1 would be a nice price, if it holds.

I don’t know if anyone else uses Formulator…but they need to seriously upgrade their server to handle traffic on big days. Brutally slow today.

Current Odds for the Belmont (as of about 1 hour ago)

1. Master of Hounds, 9-2
2. Stay Thirsty, 16-1
3. Ruler On Ice, 31-1
4. Santiva, 13-1
5. Brilliant Speed, 9-1
6. Nehro, 4-1
7. Monzon, 26-1

9. Animal Kingdom, 3-1
10. Mucho Macho Man, 7-1

These long delays between races are just brutal.

I get that track officials want to give lots of time for people to bet, but it really drags down TV coverage when you are only showing one race an hour, at best. If racing wants to improve its TV product, I think one way to do that would be to eliminate these huge gaps in races on the big days.

The All-Stakes Pick 4 pool

is a record $2.24 million (via TTimes.com). The weather may suck, but some of the pools are still taking lots of action.

Nothing to do now but have a cold beer

I’m alive on my main ticket in the P4 to Gio, Viscount and Prince. I meant to take a small stand against Gio but put him on my main Ticket by mistake and any time I do that I don’t like to change it, karma.

by noblerj on Jun 11, 2011 5:15 PM EDT reply actions

It's hard to leave a horse like him off...

I’ve got a P3 with those same three on it.

I’d love to have something a little more creative, but this race seems straightforward (which means it will turn into a free-for-all).

Ditto on the beer; just cracked another one. Too much time between races. Thank god for Picture-in-picture.

P in P going as well

Cubs vs Phillies. With the lineup the Cubs rolled out there they might get no-hit by Lee.
I don’t think NBC is really going to tell me anything I don’t already know about these 3 year-olds.

Got College Baseball on the big channel..

but I keep NBC in the corner just in case Bob Costas decides to interview a jockey that can look down on him.

I actually like Costas

Mostly because he is Mr Olympics I think.

by LAEagle on Jun 11, 2011 5:35 PM EDT up reply actions

I don't mind him for the Olympics...

but I find him amusing for horse racing.

I’m disappointed as to how NBC is using Randy Moss on the big broadcasts. The Vs. shows are good, but then they relegate him to 5 minutes of air-time on NBC.

Oh, I got my personal OTB going at home...

but on big days, I try to keep it somewhat under control…otherwise I’ll be through my bankroll before I even get to the Belmont.

My cable provider broadcasts the feed they show in the parlors, so it’s not too bad.

That's really cool.

I wish I got that out here.

Success!

I'm gonna take a stab

And say that Ebersol leaving is going to slowly alter their coverage. He’s famous for introducing the heavy on story lines angle to their Olympics broadcasts. I’m sure that also went into their horseracing as well.

Strange road to success...

gets claimed for 35k and then finishes 2nd and 1st in back-to-back Grade 1 races. Nice claim by the trainer.

45 MTP for the Belmont

Things have stabilized on the odds front:

AK 3/1, Nehro 9/2, MoH 5/1, MMM 7/1, Shack 8/1, Brilliant Speed 10/1

18 MTP and the end of the Triple Crown season...

gone by fast, hasn’t it? Wasn’t just yesterday we were playing the Swale and the Holy Bull?

Indeed

For me it all begins again next month with baby races at the Spa.

Why cut away on the paddock walk? You don’t need to see the talking head. Track feeds put audio over the paddock all the time

by BuckarooClub on Jun 11, 2011 6:23 PM EDT reply actions

Agreed. Not sure why TV can't get it right.

It’s not rocket science.

So is Durkin going to call the race too?

I thought Collmus was doing all the triple crown for NBC? It’s win-win but I prefer Durkin.

by noblerj on Jun 11, 2011 6:26 PM EDT up reply actions

Collmus is doing the TV

but Durkin is still the guy they’ll have when they pick up BEL P.A.

Durkin isn’t doing other races anymore. He’s NYRA’s guy, so that’s probably why he did this one.

Like always, let’s have a clean and safe race.

Me too.

I liked the blinkers going on…but not to make him the winner!

Like they say, "that's horse racing".

So, another 3yo stakes race…and a different winner. Combine that with a wide-open older horse division and you have to wonder what the Breeders’ Cup Classic will look like.
