Scat Daddy wins Best Freshman Sire by a "Nose"
That's an awesome headline, by the way.
In the most exciting (and yes, for me it's exciting) finish to a leading sire's "championship", Scat Daddy triumphed over Hard Spun at literally the last moment, overtaking him in the last few days of 2011.

All that separates the two is $11,185. Amazing. That's just a third place finish in an ungraded stakes difference between the two. Pretty remarkable.
However, if you look at the numbers above (taken from Bloodhorse.com's Freshman Stallion rankings), you can clearly see that Scat Daddy tops Hard Spun across the board. His efficiency in putting out good horses is much better than Hard Spun. 29/64 are winners, with three of them being GSWs and 11 of them being stakes horses are all very solid stats for a freshman sire.
I'm really looking forward to both of these stallions having a major impact in the immediate future and for many years afterwards.

Invasor
Pretty disappointing freshman season from Invasor – just 3 winners from 19 runners. Kind of surprised by that.

I wouldn't get too down on him
You can see by his race record that he really grew up later in his 3yo campaign, as he hit his stride in July/August of his 3yo and didn’t even have his first start until FEB of his 3yo year (albeit he was an August foal in ARG, meaning he’s equivalent to a FEB foal here in the states, so really he hit his stride just as he turned 3, since his birthday is June 1st). I’d just assume that with only 20% of his foals as runners, his are just developing a little slower. It’s really a crap shoot with that first crop as to how they’re going to grow up.
Good points.
Should be interesting to keep an eye on his runners throughout this coming year.
