Hansen, grandson of Pulpit, is only one of many successful progeny from his family. - Elsa

Sad news from Claiborne Farm this morning.

You can read the whole article here.

His stud fee was $50,000 in 2012. An influential sire, Pulpit was a consistent producer of stakes horses and a sire of five millionaires. He had begun to show that he was a very nice sire of sires as well, with sons Corinthian, Ice Box, Stroll, and most importantly, Tapit showing promise in the breeding shed.

Pulpit has sired 63 stakes winners including 11 North American grade I winners. The list includes Power Broker, who won the FrontRunner Stakes (gr. I), previously known as the Norfolk for 2-year-olds this fall at Santa Anita Park. Pulpit's other grade I winners include Corinthian , Ice Box , Pyro, Sky Mesa , Stroll , and Purge , plus prominent young stallion Tapit .

He will be buried at Claiborne Farms.
