The 2012 Churchill Downs Spring Meet kicks off on Saturday night with a 6:00pm Eastern post time. The eleven race card features the Grade 3 Cliff's Edge Derby Trial G3-Cliff's Edge Derby Trial (post time: 9:39pm Eastern; TV: HRTV). 1-Tappy's Goal and 8-Seve have scratched out of the race.6-Paynter (2/1) and 11-Bourbon Courage (5/2) will vie for favorite status from the public. Paynter ships to Churchill after finishing 4th in the G1-Santa Anita Derby. Bourbon Courage notched two 100+ Beyers down at the Fair Grounds in the first two races of his career.
Churchill offers three $0.50 Pick 4s, beginning with races 1, 4 and 8. A $0.50 Pick 5 begins on race 7, and the $2 Pick 6 on race 6.
There is only one turf race scheduled for tonight's card: race 10, a $30,000 Maiden Claimer for horses three and up going a mile.
The main track is currently listed as "FAST", with the turf course "FIRM" and the rail placed 22 feet from the hedge.
