Devastating news to horse racing fans this morning as I'll Have Another has scratched out of the Belmont Stakes due to a tendon injury. Doug O'Neill apparently broke the news on the Dan Patrick Radio Show this morning, ending hopes of the first Triple Crown in 34 years. An even more disappointing development is that is appears that I'll Have Another has raced his final race.
Doug O'Neill confirmed to me that I'll Have Another is out of Belmont due to developing tendonitis in left foreleg. Likely done for year.— David Grening (@DRFGrening) June 8, 2012
A press conference is scheduled for 1:00pm Eastern at Belmont Park when trainer Doug O'Neill will address the meida.
As a racing fan... well, I suppose this just rolls into the past three plus decades of Triple Crown failures, disappointments and heart breaks. At this point, we have to wonder, when will this ever end? Is the Triple Crown drought truely a jinx?
I'll have more on this development later on but, needless to say, this is tremendously disappointing for anyone that's ever followed the Triple Crown on a yearly basis.
