2012 Breeders' Cup Contenders

Similar to what I've done in previous years, I've put together a little spreadsheet tracking, by division, the contenders for the 2012 Breeders' Cup. There are two tabs in the spreadsheet: one summarizing the results of the Breeders' Cup Challenge/Win and You're In races, and the second a list of contenders for each division. The second tab is a high-level "guesstimate" of horses pointing towards Santa Anita,

A couple things to remember when trying to pin down Breeders' Cup contenders. First, the turf races are typically in flux due to the uncertainty of the foreign horses shipping to North America to compete. We should get a better idea of what to expect from Europe after Arc weekend in France on October 6th and 7th.

Second, the juvenile races can change pretty quickly based on one big performance, even if that race comes against maidens.

The link below, via Google Drive (formerly Google Docs) will take you to the file which I'll be updating frequently over the next several weeks.

2012 Breeders' Cup Contenders & Challenge Races

I'll attempt to keep this file as updated as possible with any news of injuries, retirements or announcements of horses skipping this year's event, hopefully on a semi-daily basis.
