Proper justice. Sorry Dave have to disagree, we have to start somewhere. Dutrow is only one of the offenders and it's time to clean it up.
Every track has a high percentage guy (30-40%).Have you ever asked if these trainers can win at this percentage than how come they don't have all of the owners? The answer is easy, those of us who own, buy, claim and breed horses enjoy the game too much, to give are horses away after they are ruined in exchange for 2 or 3 exceptional performances.
These trainers get thier percentage by artificially enhancing the performance of the animal. Hence the needed recovery times being so long between starts these days. Then there are the ones that do not recover and become give aways after a couple of races.
People who follow the trainers seldom note the cheaper horses that disappear after only a couple of starts. The public and the pundits tend to follow only the trainer ( his stats) and the stakes horses. Take a look at the owners lines in these barns and you will soon notice that the owners flip frequently as they soon find out they cannot afford to use the services of these trainers and give thier horses away. Of course there are some wealthy owners on each circuit that want to win at all cost and can afford to replace the horses after only a couple of starts.
Whenever I lose a horse at the claim box, I kringe hoping it dosen't go to a 40% er, it's nice when even though you may not own them anymore, at least you can continue to watch them run. When they are claimed by the trainers we are talking about, it's 2 or 3 starts and good bye.
The horses are the honest ones in this business, time to weed out the dishonest trainers
