2012 British Champions Day Results: Frankel won't be denied

The top ranked horse in the world, Frankel (GB), will make his final start in today's Group 1 British Champions Stakes at Ascot in England, part of the 2012 British Champions Day card.

Today's British Champions Day action will be televised by TVG with video streaming provided by the usual ADW outlets: DRFBets.com, TwinSpires.com, TVG.com and Expressbet.com.

A steady rainfall all week at Ascot Racecourse has left the turf rated as "Soft" on the straight course, and "Soft, Heavy in places" on the round. The current GoingStick readings from TurfTrax are below.

You'll note that the round course has gone from yesterday's 6.0 reading to a current rating of 5.6, a indication that the course has received even more water in the last 12 hours.

It's going to be a wet one at Ascot on Saturday, the only question is: "how wet'? The current going stick rating for Ascot is Soft (straight) and "Soft, Heavy in places" (Round). From the Turftrax website:

The British Champions Stakes featuring Frankel will be run on the round course and that 6.0 GoingStick number doesn't exactly instill a lot of confidence that the ground will be anything but Soft to Heavy on Saturday afternoon.

According to a report in the Racing Post, if the conditions are deemed "unsafe" by his connections following an inspection of the course tomorrow morning, it is possible he could be scratched from the race.

As you can tell from the map, the heaviest part of the round course is right where the 10 furlongs races begin, while much of the rest of the course is rated as soft. Continued rain, however, could deteriorate the other portions of the ground. Current forecasts call for an 80% of participation tonight.
