2012 Alcibiades Result: Spring In The Air wins at Keeneland

Mark Zerof-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

Spring in the Air wins the Grade 1 Darley Alcibiades at Keeneland.

Spring in the Air used a big move down the middle of the Keeneland main track to sweep to the lead and capture the Grade 1 Darley Alcibiades on opening day of the 2012 Keeneland Fall Meet. Magical Moon briefly held the lead at the top of the stretch but faded to third at the wire. Broken Spell finished second while Tara from the Cape rounded out a nice $558.87 $0.10 Superfecta.

Spring in the Air is a two-year-old daughter of Spring At Last out of an Unbridled mare (Unbridled Run) trained by Mark Casse and ridden by Patrick Husbands.

With the win in the Alcibiades, Spring in the Air is guaranteed a spot in the starting gate for the 2012 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies, although she might be a better fit in the Juvenile Fillies Turf given her form over the grass and synthetics.

In the race prior to the Alcibiades, Sum of the Parts went gate-to-wire, holding off a late charge by Noble's Promise, to win the Grade 2 TCA Stakes Grade 3 Phoenix Stakes (the TCA is Saturday) at six furlongs on the Polytrack.
