Prior winners Ron the Greek and Game On Dude square off in the 76th running of the Santa Anita Handicap.
Game On Dude, sent to the gate as the 6/5 post time favorite, broke well from the gate, grabbed the early lead and then embarked on a victory lapped as he walked to victory in the Grade 1 Santa Anita Handicap. With the victory, Game On Dude, the winner of the 2011 Santa Anita Handicap, becomes only the fourth horse in history to in the Big Cap twice. Ron the Greek, winner of the 2012 Big Cap, finished fourth.
Game On Dude is a nine-year-old gelding by Awesome Again out of a Devil His Due mare (Wordly Pleasure), trained by Bob Baffert and ridden by Mike Smith.
Earlier on the card at Santa Anita, heavy favorite Beholder went gate-to-wire to win the Grade 1 Las Virgenes to get back into the winner's circle after a tough defeat in her 2013 debut. in the race prior to the Big Cap, Suggestive Boy (ARG) held off a late charging Silentio to win the Grade 1 Kilroe Mile.
