Return to Action

Quick, which horse was the favorite at this year's Kentucky Derby? If you said Friesen Fire, congratulations.

Friesen Fire made his return to the track today in the 8th race at Fair Grounds in Allowance company at a mile and 40 yards. Bet down to 2/5 odds prior to the post, Friesen Fire was coming off a long layoff and was facing older horses for the first time. And even though he was facing a small field of only four horses, he finished a non-threatening third to Good and Lucky.

We'll see if this former Derby contender just needed a race or whether Friesen Fire is simply not going to be a top class horse in the handicap division next year. Today, the horse didn't have anything in the tank when it came time to run.
