Running over a course listed as "very soft", Workforce (GB), the winner of the 2010 Epsom Derby, added another jewel into his crown - a win over nineteen rivals in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, one of the most prestigious races in the world.

In June, Workforce made a mockery of the Epsom Derby field, winning by an easy seven lengths while earning a Racing Post Rating of 128.  His follow-up race in the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes was a flop, finishing well behind runaway winner Harbinger.  Workforce was given a bit of time off after that defeat and returned to the track this weekend to win the biggest race of the year.

Japanese invader Nakayama Festa (JPN) ran a huge race to finish second to Workforce.

In the race preceding the Arc, two-time Breeders' Cup Mile champion Goldikova (IRE) won the Group 1 Prix de la Foret in powerful fashion over Paco Boy.  Goldikova generally doesn't run her best over soft going but was much the best in this seven furlong race, a race where she ran on or near the lead for almost the entire time.

Goldikova will seek her 3rd Breeders' Cup win in a row in one month at Churchill Downs.

I'll have more on all the races from the Arc festival later on. the
