It might just be an N1X Allowance race, but today's 8th at Gulfstream Park will draw a lot of eyes due to the inclusion of Lentenor (Dynaformer - La Vile Rouge), the second full brother to 2006 Derby winner Barbaro. Lentenor will break from post 7 and was installed as the morning line favorite at 3/1.
Something to note for this race is that the rail on the Gulfstream Park turf course is back out to 72 feet which should improve the chances of front end speed. This particular race looks to have come up a little light in the speed category: Lentenor likes to stalk the pace, as does the horse to his outside in post position 9, Saint Eligius. Beyond that there isn't a whole lot of other early speed types except for possibly Psychic Income, a horse that has shown some speed over Keeneland's Polytrack surface last October.
This race sets up absolutely perfect for Lentenor given the rail placement and leisurely pace scenario. Perhaps if Leparoux is able to get Psychic Income loose on the lead he can steal this race but it's tough to come to any other conclusion than this is Lentenor's race to lose.
I doubt we'll see Lentenor anywhere near 3/1 at post time; 7/5 or worse is very likely. However, Psychic Income might be worth a play in an exacta or trifecta at 12/1 on the ML.
Below is the video from Lentenor's maiden breaking win back on January 20th (rail at 96 feet).
