Okay, okay...that's not really going to happen, but after watching today's two prep races and once again seeing a bunch of three year olds struggle to run a mile and an eighth you gotta wonder what the final furlongs of this year's Derby are going to look like. It's very possible that it will just be Eskendereya and Lookin At Lucky running far away from the field...or it's going to be a complete and utter mess.
Stately Victor won the Grade 1 Blue Grass at odds of 40/1. Minutes later, Line of David goes wire-to-wire to win the Arkansas Derby, putting yet another speed horse into the Derby. I'd play a closer on Derby day...if there were any in the field that I liked.
Quick thought on the Arkansas Derby, since that was the only dirt prep today: Noble's Promise, Dublin, and Super Saver looked brutal in the stretch. I've been a fan of Noble's and Dublin but after today....well, I don't see either of those horses getting 1 1/4 miles.
