The Power of the Carryover

The $930,000 carryover into today's Pick 6 at Belmont, along with another $2.3 million bet into the pool prior to the start of the sequence, created a final pool of about $3.3 million prior to the 26% track take.

A winning 6-of-6 ticket paid a little over $550,000.  Had there not been that additional $930,000 in the Pick 6 pool, a 6-of-6 would have paid approximately $350,000.  The losing tickets on Saturday helped to create somewhere in the neighborhood of a 60% increase in today's payouts.

When you crunch the numbers, it's no wonder that some players won't get involved in a Pick 6 until there is a carryover.
