2010 Breeders' Cup: The Prep Races

The 2010 Breeders' Cup at Churchill Downs is only four months away which means that many of this year's contenders will have three or four more races prior to the main event.  As a result, I like to get a head start on identifying the key contenders in each division.

I've put together an Excel file that breaks out each Breeders' Cup division and the graded stakes that could possibly produce starters in November.  Obviously some races cross over to other divisions and horses can enter any of the Breeders' Cup races, regardless of where they prep.  But at the same time, I find it helpful to try and organize all of the potential prep races in order to compare field strength prior to the Breeders' Cup.

The spreadsheet contains the top three finishes in each race, and eventually will have their corresponding speed figure (when I get the time to look them all up).  The file also contains links to result charts from DRF.com, if one is available.

There are a few more changes I'm going to make to this file going forward, one is to include a few more stakes races from the recently completed Churchill Down sprint meet, whether graded or ungraded.  With the Breeders' Cup at Churchill this year I like to be able to quickly identify any horses that performed well over the track in 2010.

There is another file that I like to use during the Breeders' Cup, but it's one that won't come in handy until the week of the event itself, and that's the Breeders' Cup Historical Payout file.  This file provides a snapshot of each Breeders' Cup race, by year, and the corresponding pari-mutuel payouts .
