BREEDERS' CUP 2011 CLASSIC: A Final Look At The Vegas Future Book

A week from now, the post positions and the morning lines will be done and set for the 2011 Breeders' Cup at Churchill Downs.  But before we get to that point, I wanted to take a final look at the Vegas future book for the Classic.  The Louisville Courrier-Journal has posted the odds from the Wynn Las Vegas on a consistent basis and below are the latest odds from the race and sports book.

(Odds chart below the jump)

Horse Odds
Havre de Grace 3/1
Uncle Mo 4/1
Tizway 8/1
Await the Dawn 9/1
Flat Out 9/1
Game On Dude 9/1
So You Think (NZ)
9/1
Stay Thirsty 11/1
To Honor And Serve 14/1
Ruler On Ice 15/1
Drosselmeyer 22/1
Prayer For Relief 22/1
Rattlesnake Bridge 35/1

While the odds themselves will look different on Classic day due to the parimutuel aspect of the track odds, as opposed to the casino environment, the order of the horses from lowest to highest is probably pretty close to what we'll see at post time. The favorites will probably be a little shorter in price, and the long-shots a little longer.

Havre de Grace makes sense as the favorite given her current form and accomplishments throughout the year.  Uncle Mo will probably vie for favorite status with the filly.  I think Tizway, Flat Out, Game On Dude, and Stay Thirsty will get more action than the two Europeans, Await the Dawn and So You Think, but I'd expect that group of horses to take most of the mid-shot money. I would expect the crowd to make Tizway a strong 3rd choice, maybe in the 5/1 to 6/1 range, but it also may turn out that the crowd will put those six horses within a couple of points of each other prior to the race.

There are a few other horses that could draw into the race, but I wouldn't expect them to make a big impact on the odds board.

As usual, there will be lots of options on Breeders' Cup weekend.
