Pour Moi (IRE) put forth a furious rally down the center of the Epsom Downs course under jockey Mickael Barzalona to beat Treasure Beach (GB) by a head at the wire to win the 2011 Epsom Derby.  The Queen's horse, Carlton House, finished 3rd, a half-length back.

Aiden O'Brien's Memphis Tennessee (IRE) set the early pace right from the gate and led the field by four or five lengths as they rounded Tattenham Corner and began the decent towards the wire.  Treasure Beach made the first significant move of the contenders and went to the lead just inside the two furlong marker, but his failure to put significant distance between himself and the rest of the field at that point opened the door for the late runners behind him. Carlton House, who had sat near the middle of the pack for the majority of the early going, began to make his move inside the two but flattened out late and didn't have enough left to get to the front.

Pour Moi sat roughly six or seven lengths back at the two furlong marker but was coming with a ton of run towards the tiring leaders.  Inside the final furlong, it appeared unlikely the Pour Moi would have enough too much to do to reach the wire first, but the inability of those ahead of him to sustain their run gave him the opportunity to run them down inside the final furlong.  Jockey Mickael Barzalona stood in celebration as he hit the wire, not needing a photo to tell him what he already knew - Pour Moi had won the Epsom Derby*.

*The Racing Post reports that Barzalona was banned for one day due to excessive use of the whip and earned a warning from the stewards for his celebration.

Pour Moi is a son of Montjeu (IRE) out of a Darshaan (GB) mare (Gwynn (IRE)) and trained by Andre Fabre.  This is Fabre's first win in the Epsom Derby.

Pour Moi was sent off at odds of 4/1 in the North American pools, and at odds of approximately 5/1 in the U.K. Carlton House garnered favorite status at 2/1 in North America and approximately 3/1 in the U.K.

1st: Pour Moi (IRE)

The final time of the Derby was 2:34.54 over ground rated as "Good".
