Scat Daddy wins Best Freshman Sire by a "Nose"

That's an awesome headline, by the way.

In the most exciting (and yes, for me it's exciting) finish to a leading sire's "championship", Scat Daddy triumphed over Hard Spun at literally the last moment, overtaking him in the last few days of 2011.

# Stallion 12 Stud Fee Current 2YOs Rnrs Wnrs Rpt. Wnrs SWrs GSWrs SHs Yearling Average Chief Earner/Earnings Earnings
1 Scat Daddy $17,500 111 64 29 7 5 3 11 $48,471 Finale ($257,345) $1,521,410
2 Hard Spun $40,000 143 70 25 6 3 1 9 $87,492 Hard Not to Like ($280,035)

$1,510,235

All that separates the two is $11,185. Amazing. That's just a third place finish in an ungraded stakes difference between the two. Pretty remarkable.

However, if you look at the numbers above (taken from Bloodhorse.com's Freshman Stallion rankings), you can clearly see that Scat Daddy tops Hard Spun across the board. His efficiency in putting out good horses is much better than Hard Spun. 29/64 are winners, with three of them being GSWs and 11 of them being stakes horses are all very solid stats for a freshman sire.

I'm really looking forward to both of these stallions having a major impact in the immediate future and for many years afterwards.
