Nearctic Stakes 2012 Results: Next Question Takes The Field Gate-to-Wire

New, 2 comments

Next Question and Ramon Domiguez held on in the final 100 yards to win the Grade 1 Nearctic Stakes in gate to wire fashion at odds of 15/1. Running over a turf course raced at GOOD at Woodbine, Next Question was able to secure though solid but sane early fractions and just kept running once he hit the stretch drive. Filly Night Carnation (GB) made a strong run on the rail to grab second, while Bear Tough Tiger rounded out the trifecta (or triactor for those north of the boarder).

With the win in the Nearctic, Next Question has secured a spot in the 2012 Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint at Santa Anita.

Next Question is a four-year-old gelding by Stormy Atlantic out of a Slew City Slew mare (Seattle Stardust) trained by Michael Trombetter and owned by Three Diamonds Farm. This is his first graded stakes victory after competing at the state-bred allowance and optional claiming levels in New York this summer.

Below are the payouts, fractions and internal splits from the Grade 1 Nearctic Stakes.
