2012 Gotham Stakes Result: Hansen Bounces Back (w/Video)

Hansen

Hansen, racing without blinkers for the first time and breaking from the next to last post in a field of 13, stalked the early pace and used a strong kick at the top of the lane to run away with the G3-Gotham Stakes at Aqueduct on Saturday afternoon. The Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winner was 2nd in his first start of 2012 when he finished five lengths behind Algorithms in the Holy Bull. He ran off a bit that afternoon and, as a result, trainer Michael Maker took off the shades for his start in the Gotham. The move worked as Hansen settled down in the early stages and, for the first time in his career, stalked the early pace rather than setting it.

My Adonis put in a good effort to grab second, while longshot Finnegans Wake got up for third. Tiger Walk rounded out the Superfecta.

Hansen is a three-year-old son of Tapit out of a Sir Cat mare (Stormy Sunday). He is now 5-4-1-0 in his career and is one of the leading contenders for this year’s Kentucky Derby.
