2012 Longacres Mile Draw
2012 Longacres Mile Draw

Awesome Gem drew post position #3 and is the 5/2 morning line favorite to repeat in the 2012 G3-Longacres Mile at Emerald Downs on Sunday. The nine-year-old gelding won his first start of 2012 against allowance company at Golden Gate Fields but has only a DQ win in the G3-Berkely Handicap to his credit since April. In his most recent start he finished 3rd in the G3-Cornhuskere Handicap at Prairie Meadows.

4-Winning Machine (8/1) is the top local entry; he won the Governors Handicap and the Budweiser Handicap before finishing 3rd by a neck in last month's Mt. Rainier Handicap.

10-Taylor Said (6/1) and 11-St Liams Halo (10/1) make the short trip down from Vancouver, BC, for trainer Michael Puhich. Taylor Said has won five straight races, the last four at Hastings. St Liams Halo was second in the Mt Rainier Handicap at Emerald after a string of losses at Hastings early in the summer.

The weather is expected to be hot and dry in the Seattle area all weekend and I'll be heading out to Emerald Downs on Friday and Sunday for what should be a great weekend of racing.
