2012 Secretariat Stakes Result: Bayrir Pulls Away For France

French raider Bayrir (FR), under a wonderful ride by Christophe Lemaire, powered home down the middle of the Arlington Park turf course to win the Grade 1 Secretariat Stakes. Favorite Silver Max, the top three-year-old turf colt in the country so far this season, set a good pace but faded after being pressured by Daddy Long Legs on the far turn. Finnegans Wake got up to grab second while Summer Front rounded out the trifecta.

Bayrir (FR) is a three-year-old colt by Medicean (GB) out of a Darshaan (GB) mare (Balankiya (IRE) trained by Alain De Royer-Dupre and owned by the Aga Khan.

More below the jump.

Prior to the Secretariat, the first running of the 1 11/16 mile American St. Leger went to Jakkalberry (IRE) after he passed a game Ioya Bigtime in mid-stretch. Ioya Bigtime carved out solid fractions but didn't have enough left in the tank to hold off the 8/5 favorite but was well clear of the show horse, Zuider Zee (GER).

Below are the payout, fractions and internal splits for the Grade 1 Secretariat Stakes and the American St. Leger.
