It's hard to win a one mile graded stakes race on the grass easier than Wise Dan did in the 2012 Grade 1 Woodbine Mile. When you combine his Woodbine performance with his domination in the G2-Fourstardave at Saratoga, there's no doubt that Wise Dan is the best turf miler in North America and one of the favorites for the 2012 Breeders' Cup Mile.
Wise Dan settled into a great position along the rail in the early stages of the Woodbine Mile, sitting approximately three lengths behind the early speed. Coming off the far turn, Johnny V. moved to the front along the inside and easily powered to the lead. Hunters Bay and Cityscape (GB) gave chase, but there was no way they were going to get to Wise Dan at the wire.
In earlier action at Woodbine, Wigmore Hall (IRE) defended his title in the Grade 1 Northern Dancer with a head-bob win over Al Khali at the wire. In the Grade 3 Ontario Derby, Stealcase used a strong late move to pass Any Given Royal and River Rush to score at odds of 2/1. And in the Grade 2 Canadian, Barefoot Lady (IRE) took home top honors in her first start in North America.
