NEW ORLEANS -- Revolutionary, a late-running winner of the Withers Stakes at Aqueduct last time out, leads a field of 14 colts in the 2013 Louisiana Derby. (Post Time: 6:44 pm Easter: TV: NBCSN). At 3/1 on the morning line, Revolutionary is a tepid favorite in the deep and contentious field.

Code West, second in the Risen Star Stakes at the Fair Grounds in late February, drew post position #8 and is the 9/2 second choice. Titletown Five, a colt co-owned by former Green Bay Packer legend Paul Hornung, drew post position 10 and is 8/1 on the morning line.

The Louisiana Derby is part of the last phase of the official Road to the Kentucky Derby series and is worth 100-40-20-10 points to the top four finishers in the race. Given the current state of the points leader board, it is highly likely that the top two finishers will have enough points from just the Louisiana Derby to qualify for a spot in the starting gate at Churchill Downs.

I'll have more on this race, and all the action scheduled for Saturday's Louisiana Derby card, in the next couple of days.
