Bob Baffert's Flashback looks to make it three-for-three in his young career with a victory in the San Felipe Stakes at Santa Anita Park on Saturday. (Post time: 6:35 pm ET; TV: HRTV & TVG). The son of Tapit (hey, look, a Stallion Profile of Tapit!) won his debut by 3 1/2 lengths at Betfair Holloywood Park in early December, followed by a 6 1/4 length score against a small field of challenges in the G2-Robert B. Lewis Stakes on Feb. 2.Flashback is a full brother to the stakes winning mare Zazu.
Flashback will likely receive his toughest challenge to date from the colt drawn to his outside, Goldencents, the winner of the G3-Delta Downs Jackpot and the G3-Sham Stakes and the runner-up Shanghai Bobby in the G1- Champagne at Belmont last fall.
Jerry Hollendorfer's Hear the Ghost stretches out to two turns for the first time after finishing second in the ungraded San Pedro at six furlongs back on Jan. 21. Hear the Ghost's dam and siblings did all of their best running at sprint distances, so it remains to be seen what this colt is capable of at this distance.
Another colt stretching out for the first time is recent maiden breaker Salutos Amigos, a son of Salute the Sarge out a Luhuk mare (Sarasota (ARG)). Salutos Amigos tasted victory for the first time in his third attempt at the Maiden Special Weight level back on Feb. 9. Martin Garcia will take over for Julien Leparoux in the irons; Leparoux will ride Flashback.
Below are the entries and post positions for Saturday's San Felipe Stakes. Morning line odds will be added when released.
