Rood & Riddle held a press conference on Thursday afternoon in order to provide an update on the status of 2009 Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra following complications from foaling. Tweets from the DRF Breeding account summarized the current condition of Rachel:
Woodie: Her recovery from anesthesia was uncomplicated, doing the best we could expect with recovery.

Barr: Too early to make prognosis, prediction on future as a broodmare. Taking it one day at a time.

Barbara Banke: It's a beautiful filly, birth was hard for her.
— DRFBreeding (@DRFBreeding) February 14, 2013
Banke: Rachel looks brighter today, so that makes me happy. It's a day-by-day, hour-by-hour thing, so it's very serious.

While her future as a broodmare is in doubt, the more pressing concern with Rachel Alexandra is her long-term health. And the resolution of that issue is far from certain at this point.
