Trainer Jerry Hollendorfer sent some shockwaves through the racing world Thursday afternoon as he broke news that Hear The Ghost (Ghostzapper - Rehear by Coronado's Quest) will not start in this weekend's $750,000 Grade 1 Santa Anita Derby. The Kentucky Derby prospect currently sits in tenth-place in Derby qualification points with 50 earned points and $195,400 in non-restricted stakes earnings.

Hear the Ghost suffered an injury in training Thursday, but the specifics were not disclosed.

The Santa Anita Derby looked to be a repeat showdown of last month's Grade 2 San Vicente Stakes where Hear the Ghost upset the dueling rivals of Flashback and Goldencents. The race is an important final prep for next Month's Run for The Roses with 100 quailfication points being awarded to the winner.

Hear the Ghost was bought at the 2011 Keenelend September yearling sale for a modest $40,000 by Ted Aroney of Halo Farms and trainer Jerry Hollendorfer. The gelding will not be retired indefinetely, Hollendorfer admitted "...with time, he'll come back 100 percent."
