Flat Out might not have a lot of success in big races outside the state of New York, but he's been money in the bank at Belmont Park over the course of his career, including two wins in the Grade 1 Jockey Club Gold Cup. He'll go for five in a row at Big Sandy on Memorial Day against eight rivals in the Met Mile (Post time: 5:49 pm Eastern; TV: TVG & HRTV) as the 5/2 morning line favorite.
Cross Traffic (3/1), runner-up to Flat Out in the G3-Westchester in late April, is back to try and turn the tables and will attempt to control the race from his spot on the rail. To the far outside, Bob Bafffert's Fed Biz (15/1) ships in from Southern California to add some pace pressure to the race, along with the horse in the 2-hole, Discreet Dancer (6/1).
If a bit of a pace duel does develop on the front end, the race could set-up perfectly for Sahara Sky (6/1), runner-up in the G1-Carter Handicap in his last start and winner of a pair of Grade 2 sprint events at Santa Anita this winter. He got stuck a bit to the inside in the Carter and didn't have the cleanest of trips that afternoon; the wider post position and the presence of horses with some tactical speed to his outside should give him a better run around the track than his last effort.
