In a vote that was all but a formality, Wise Dan won his second consecutive Horse of the Year title at the Eclipse Awards at Gulfstream Park on Saturday night. Wise Dan also won the Eclipse Award for both Champion Turf Male and Champion Older Male. This marks the second year in a row that he swept all three categories.
Wise Dan is a seven-year-old gelding by Wiseman's Ferry out of a Wold Power (SAF) dam (Lisa Danielle), trained by Charles Lopresti, owned by Morton Fink, and ridden by most of the time by John Velazquez. Wise Dan's long list of major wins includes back-to-back victories in the Woodbine Mile, Fourstardave Handicap and the Breeders' Cup Mile. Over the course of his career, Wise Dan has won $6.3 million in purses.
