The road to the 2014 Kentucky Derby is nearing an end with today's runnings of the Wood Memorial and Santa Anita Derby.

It's time for the big ones in New York and Southern California with a pair of top-level Kentucky Derby prep races: the Wood Memorial and the Santa Anita Derby. Both races features horses with a secure spot in the Derby starting gate, along with some strong rivals that absolutely need a big race today in order to move into the Top 20. By the end of the day today, the field for this year's Derby will be oh-so-close to completion.

Today's changes at Aqueduct, Santa Anita, and Keeneland:

Aqueduct, April 5th - Scratches & Changes
Santa Anita, April 5th - Scratches & Changes
Keeneland, April 5th - Scratches & Changes

Fortunately the weather looks like it's going to be perfect for racing in both New York and Arcadia, so no excuses due to wet, sloppy or muddy tracks today.

I'm taking in today's action and spending the majority of the day at Emerald Downs where they are a week away from opening up their 2014 racing season. I'll chime in on the comments from my phone, as well as with some typically inane observations on Twitter.

This is your weekend open thread.
