2013 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Results: Outstrip closes hard for the win

Outstrip (GB) sprints home to give Europe its second 2013 Breeders' Cup winner in the first two races.

Alan Crowhurst

Outstrip (GB) rolled down the Santa Anita turf course in the final furlong to surge past favorite Bobby's Kitten and Giovanni Boldini to win the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf. Bobby's Kitten, 6/5 odds at post time, went straight to the lead and set ridiculous fractions of 22.27 and 45.70 through the first half mile. Giovanni Boldini came up to challenge the favorite as the field came off the far turn and those to sprinted away from the rest of the field except for the hard-charging winner.

Giovanni Baldini finished second, Bobby's Kitten finished third, and Bon Accord rounded out the superfecta.

Outstrip is a two-year-old colt by Exceed and Excel out of a El Prado (IRE) mare (Asi Siempre), trained by Charles Appleby and ridden by Mike Smith. The win was Smith's second win so far at the 2013 Breeders' Cup after winning the Marathon with London Bridge.
