Vosburgh 2013 Results: Private Zone holds off Justin Phillip

Private Zone held off Justin Phillip through a thrilling stretch duel to win the Grade 1 Vosburgh at Belmont Park on Super Saturday. Breaking very fast from the gate, Private Zone went right to the front of the pack and set quick fractions through the first half mile of the six panel affair. After dispatching of his early rivals, Private Zone had to deal with a hard-charging Justin Phillip to his outside as the field entered the top of the stretch. Justin Phillip looked to have all the momentum but could not get by Private Zone as the winner fought back gallantly along the rail to win by a head under the wire.

Strapping Groom finished third while Todd Pletcher's Forty Tales rounded out the superfecta.

Private Zone is a four-year-old gelding by Macho Uno out of a Siphon (BRZ) mare (Auburn Beauty), trained by Doug O'Neill and ridden by Martin Pedroza.

The Vosburgh is a "Win and You're In" race for the Breeders' Cup Sprint.
